Devils Marbles

Today we left Alice Springs and headed to Tennant Creek.

We crossed the Tropic of Capricorn not far out of Alice Springs. It is funny it seems that the weather has changed now that we have crossed over and we are now without jackets for the first time since we left home.

A little town on the way called Aileron had the most extraordinary figures on display. Home of the Anmatjere Aboriginal Arts & Crafts. This figure is 5 1/2 feet tall.

However this figure on top of the hill is enormous in size, you can see it from miles away driving down the highway.

Here is the aboriginal women and child with Kevin to show just how big the figures are. They really were amazing.

The next little stop of the way was Wycliff Well where more sightings of UFO's happen than anywhere else.

We stopped to see the Devil's Marbles - Karlu Karlu. The literal meaning to Karlwekarlwe is round object but to local aboriginal people this name means much more than that. Karlwekarlwe country is extremely rich in dreaming sites, places where special events happened in Altywerre Wirnkarra or Dreamtime. Aboriginal people believe that people from the dreaming at Kwerreympe live in the caves under the rocks here.
